Lack of locomotives can lead to a shortage of salt. The Russalt company appealed to the Russian government because of the lack of locomotives for transporting salt.

The largest salt producer in Russia, the Russalt company, appealed to the Russian government because of the lack of locomotives for transporting products. The commercial director of Russalt Alexei Bulychev commented on the situation with the shipment and transportation of salt to EAN.

“Transportation and shipment of salt is still going badly, hundreds of abandoned trains have accumulated on the highways of Russian Railways. By mid-February, the situation has already become a stalemate, and other industries are also experiencing problems with the delivery of goods. There are no major changes yet.”

-Bulychev said.

The company is negotiating with Russian Railways to develop a joint solution that is beneficial to both parties. Earlier, the salt supplier sent a letter to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin with a request to pay attention to the problem, because in January about 20% of the salt could not be shipped.

All this can result in untimely delivery of products to consumers. Failures in the work of road and municipal enterprises, thermal power plants due to lack of technical salt are possible.

In winter, technical salt is used as the main component to combat icing, and this topic was discussed at the St. Petersburg International Road Forum. During his speech at the forum, Aleksey Bulychev said that in Russia in winter, road industry enterprises use about 3.5-3.8 million tons of technical salt, depending on how snowy the winter was during the season.

Recall that in 2017 the company had to drastically reduce salt production at the Iletsk mine in the Orenburg region due to a shortage of wagons on the railway to ship products.
